ENCHANTED BRIDES ~ SPRING / SUMMER 2014

tage feel of the 30's. The Southernmost
House in Key West had both the beach-
front and that vintage feel. Interestingly
enough, the owners of Southernmost
Mansion during the 1930's were good
friends of Hemingway's and he was a fre-
quent guest. Could you get more perfect
than that?
Now that they found the location
to match their theme and their guests
were aware of the style, it came time to
design the décor. With help from Kelly,
Lynne and Phil picked out animal print
tablecloths to represent Hemingway's
love of Africa to drape the tables with.
They found hard back vintage copies of
his novels to adorn the dining tables with
as well as black-and-white photos of the
author himself. Continuing, Hemingway
movie posters were the inspiration for the
table numbers. Lynne and Phil even used
their own guests' names on the posters in
place of the movie executives.
Of course the couple incorporated
the 1930's theme with their attire as well.
Both Lynne and Phil wore customized
1930's attire for their "I Dos". A New
York City vintage inspired dress designer
designed the bride's dress and it was a
cream silk satin, asymmetrical bias cut
halter dress pulled together by a breath-
taking vintage brooch. And her precious
peep-toe pumps were actually worn by a
bride in 1934! How is that for something
old? The groom dressed in a dapper linen
grey and cream pinstripe suit, a popular
look for men in the 1930's, with a fedora
and spectator shoes. They were nothing
short of being dressed to impress!
As guests entered the ceremony, an
Ernest Hemingway actor greeted guests
as he fed them with facts about his life and
each guest. The ceremony started at the
vintage veranda as guests were offered
Aperitifs from the 30's- each one con-
sumed and mentioned in one of Heming-
way's novels. They had the Hemingway
Daiquiri, The Sidecar, a Champagne
Cocktail, and Citron Presse. The guests
even got to take home the Hemingway
drink recipe book as their favor!
After the exchanging of vows were
spoken in the words of Hemingway ("To
have and have not"), guests enjoyed a
night of celebration. From enjoying deli-
cious local seafood, and other delectable
treats by Great Events Catering and sip-
ping on Spanish wine (two of Heming-
way's favorite things) to tearing up the
dance floor with traditional 1930's jazz
music to the bride and groom sharing
their first dance to "The Way You Look
Tonight", the theme was apparent from
start to finish. And each guest loved par-
ticipating in the attire as fedoras and fin-
ger waved hair could be seen on guests
throughout.
Planning a themed wedding like this
one can be a challenge, but Lynne and
Phil would tell you it is completely worth
it and an incredible memory both of them
and their guests will have. It is worth the
time and effort for a day even Hemingway
himself would raise a glass to. Cheers to
you Lynne and Phil!
